video file types
Video file types are pretty important to pay attention to, but the two main ones you'll encounter are MOV and MP4s. Here's a quick breakdown of them. MOVs are huge because they keep high-quality video, audio, and effects that a good camera will record in MOV, and it's what you want to use realistically when you shoot. MP4 is the most common video file type. Most devices can use it, they aren't too big too so they're good for uploading on most platforms, and the quality is har

audio file types
Audio also has a fair few different file types WAV is a high-res audio file type. It's the standard for CDs. It doesn't have much metadata and large file sizes, as it's uncompressed. The Zoom audio recorders used for the assessment save audio as WAVs FLAC is a lossless compression audio format. It has pretty good metadata and has relatively large file sizes. It's a file type often used by DJs MP3 is a popular but relatively poor audio file type in that it's compressed and ha

image file types
there are many types of files for images the main two that i deal with are jpg jpegs are good for quick reveiw and are quite small good for use online as its widely compatible but every time its edited at all it compresses and quality decrreases raw raw files save the cameras settigns and alot of extra information as a result they take more storage and arent as compatible for use on websites and social media but are probably your bets choice as they dontn undergo compression

three point lighting
Three point lighting is a very standard type of lighting that lets you separate the subject from its background as well as letting you fully light your subject the three lights are the key light your brightest light that goes on one side of the subjects front then there's the fill which is about 90 degrees around the subject from the key light this fills out and brightens any shadows made by the key light personally I keep it a bit lower than the key light to make it a mor

first interveiw practice
Learned how to set up for a single camera interview, and my main struggle was focusing while being behind the camera and letting the contributor speak without also engaging in the conversation, but I feel that was more a result of how I was feeling on the day than anything else, though We also vaguely covered interviews with multiple cameras to prevent them from being in shot, but getting all sides at once. You use what is called the line, an imaginary line that goes across t

GV's
GV's stand for general views also sometimes called b roll they are used to fill out an edit to give better context to the setting and to make people get a good idea of where they are looking at as the name suggests giving you a general view of setting and they're usually a mix of wides and mid wides but can show closer up or focus on something in the area like a decorative item or an animal for example if it was covering somewhere like a stately home you might have a GV feat

shot sizes
Shot sizes are a selection of static shot compositions There are. close-ups which typically start with the shoulders at the bottom of the frame, and the top of the head cropped out or barely in frame Then there's medium close-up, which starts just below the chest and stops at the same point as the top of the frame mid shots which start with the waist at the bottom medium longs where the bottom of the frames is at the thigh longs which feature the whole body I personally like

developing shot
Whilst static shot sizes are helpful and necessary, a developing shot that directly follows an action is an essential and helpful tool as a camera operator. To shoot a developing shot, you might need to pan, tilt, and zoom continuously to follow the subject, and to show this shot type often includes cues to allow the subject to know when to do what, as well as making the operator's job easier

exposure and peaking practice
in this lecture we practiced managing exposure and preventing peaking using a piece of black and white card to see where the light peaks i learned that other people prefer a higher exposure than I do as I personally like to keep the iso aslow as possible to reduce grain obviously this can mean i need lower shutter speed and wider apeture the cons of this is that a moving subject or any movement of the camera can negatively impact the resultant image for example in this photo

practice in contraast
The following image is from practicing accurately capturing images with high contrast It outlined the importance of settings like white balance, aperture, and iso aswell as the impact the lighting can have (the website has compressed the images so they look a wee bit crunchy) example of bad contrast the whites dont pop and th e colours lool drained this ones over exposed and the colours are still drained this image has had the white balance fiddled with so the image is too wa

lighting and colour temp
Colour temperature or white balance is a measurement that determines how warm the lighting is and, by extension, how things appear in the image. Warm light appears more orange, and cold light appears more blueish tungsten Tungsten is a relatively warm light, sitting between 2700 and 3200. Its name comes from tungsten halogen lights, which use a tungsten filament daylight Daylight is a colder light between 6500 and 5500K; it's relatively blue Whilst you should try and match

practiced handheld recording skills
The main struggles for me were stability. This outlined the importance of footwear suitable for the setting and the significance of being accustomed to the equipment you use. importat take aways included that All movement should come from the legs, not the waist, and you should aim to mask the camera's movement with the subject
