GV's stand for general views also sometimes called b roll they are used to fill out an edit to give better context to the setting and to make people get a good idea of where they are looking at as the name suggests giving you a general view of setting and they're usually a mix of wides and mid wides but can show closer up or focus on something in the area like a decorative item or an animal for example if it was covering somewhere like a stately home you might have a GV featuring a pond with a swan in it or a grand looking staircase inside the building they're very helpful to flesh out an edit but deciding what to use for the gv can occasionally be challenging because you want it to be interesting which often means not the first or second thing you think of
