Three point lighting is a very standard type of lighting that lets you separate the subject from its background as well as letting you fully light your subject the three lights are the key light your brightest light that goes on one side of the subjects front then there's the fill which is about 90 degrees around the subject from the key light this fills out and brightens any shadows made by the key light personally I keep it a bit lower than the key light to make it a more interesting shot thirdly there's the backlight I place it behind the subject towards the key light it can either give a slight halo effect from how it transmits through hair of the subject it also creates background separation
